On June 11, at 6:30 P.M. thousands of people of all faiths and backgrounds will gather at the Washington National Cathedral for the second Interfaith Convocation on hunger. hunger in Beer Sheva
One of more distressed communities in Israel, Beer Sheva has been my home for fifteen years.
Our mayor and many others are deeply troubled at the sight of elderly immigrants (and probably natives as well) picking through the dumpsters looking for food. (I have spoken personally with the mayor about this.)
The civic institutions are simply unable to deal with the stark, recurring hunger of many people, young and old. Volunteers made sandwiches for delivery to the elementary schools but funds have dropped off for this outreach.
If it is true that "charity begins at home" and if the communities of Israel share some small status as "home" in addition to your own cities, can you help?
Let me know if you wish details.
