Mel Scult and Mordecai Kaplan

Editor Mel Scult with Mordecai Kaplan, 1972
Mel Scult writes "It was 1972 and I had met Kaplan for the first time. It was July and he was at Camp Cejwin in Port Jervis New York. I told him I wanted to work on his biography and so I went up and we spent the better part of three days together talking. He wanted to talk about his philosophy and I wanted to get him to talk about his life. We talked morning and afternoon and he was ready to continue at night though I was too exhausted. Of course he did most of the talking. As we were talking one afternoon a fellow wandered by with a camera and took this picture."
