RRC CONTINUES DISTANCE LEARNING:
EXAMINING THE PROPHETS AND LEADERSHIP
WYNCOTE, PA, November 30 -- RRC continues our innovative distance-learning
program with a second course from February 11 to May 4, 2007. A video
introduction to the course is available at the RRC web site. You may also
register online or e-mail Janis Smith at jsmith@rrc.edu. Registration is
available now and continues through February 2, 2007.
The new course, A Call to Leadership: Ancient Models, examines the nature
of leadership through the lens of the prophets. Tamar Kamionkowski, Ph.D., RRC’s
dean and chair of the Department of Biblical Civilization, is the instructor. The
course will include six sessions, each of which is available online for two
weeks. This allows people to participate at times convenient for them. The cost
for the course is $75 for members of JRF congregations and $150 for others.
Course description — The Call to Leadership: Ancient Models
The writings of the biblical prophets are among the most inspiring,
troubling and complex texts of the Bible. In this six-session course, we will
delve into the self-reflections of a number of prophets to understand more fully
what compelled them to take on the challenging role of a prophet in Israel. We
will pay particular attention to the call narratives — the moment of God’s
call to a prophetic life — of Amos, Hosea, Isaiah, Jeremiah and Ezekiel.
MA NISHMAH: NEWS FROM THE RECONSTRUCTIONIST MOVEMENT
FIRST JRF TEEN TRIP TO ISRAEL AND POLAND, JUNE 26-AUGUST 5, 2007
No’ar Hadash is pleased to announce the No’ar Hadash Israel Experience, open to entering high school juniors and seniors, June 26-August 5, 2007. Participants will assemble on the Aaron and Marjorie Ziegelman Campus of Camp JRF. They will spend four days in Poland exploring the grandeur of Jewish life prior to World War II, touching on the horror of the Holocaust at Nazi death camps, and witnessing the rebirth of Jewish life in the 21st century.
In Israel, they will participate in a month-long interactive experience, based on a civilizational approach. Participants will find ways in which Jews have lived their lives in Israel throughout the generations. They will spend time in all parts of the country as they climb, swim, sing, hike, learn, and explore Israel. Participants will have an opportunity to experience Shabbat in Jerusalem, see the sunrise over Masada, participate in tikkun olam projects with their Israeli peers, marvel at the natural wonders of the land, discuss the realities of life in contemporary Israel, and connect with Reconstructionist rabbis living and working in Israel.
They will then bring their learning back to the Reconstructionist youth community in the United States - spending Shabbat at Camp JRF so that they can share their experiences, their stories, and their excitement about this unforgettable summer.
